Eve Energy, a leading Chinese battery maker, said it will become the designated supplier to General Motors and Rimac Technology. The company will also make batteries in Europe with Rimac from 2027.
Eve Energy will supply the US auto giant with 12-volt lithium battery systems and the Croatian vehicle components and systems developer with power batteries, the Huizhou-based firm announced yesterday.
Its plant in Jingmen, Hubei province will fulfil the product orders, it noted, adding that the exact quantities will be decided later. It did not disclose further details.
Rimac has joined hands with Eve Energy to develop battery cells in Europe from 2027, the Zagreb-based firm said on the same day. The Chinese firm will focus on making cells, while Rimac will develop and mass produce battery module and pack platforms using those cells, it noted.
Eve Energy said its supply deal with Rimac will see them contribute to building a sustainable electric vehicle supply chain in Europe and promote the development of the local EV industry.
Formed in 2009, Rimac is a key provider of high-performance electrification technologies, according to its website. The firm focuses on engineering, developing, producing, and supplying battery systems, electric drive units, electronic systems, and user interface components.
The deals are the latest examples of Eve Energy growing its overseas business. On Sept. 6, it revealed an agreement to set up a power battery joint venture in the United States with Daimler Truck and two other US firms, with total investment of over USD2.6 billion. Eve Energy will also provide the JV with patent licenses to make batteries.
Shares of Eve Energy [SHE: 300014] dipped 0.3 percent today to finish at CNY47.55 (USD6.48). The wider Shenzhen market fell 0.4 percent.
