Ukraine used British and American missiles to wipe out Russia’s defences in Crimea, as the European nation confirmed advances in its ongoing war with Moscow.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Ukraine made gains near its territories in Bakhmut, Donetsk, and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia.
The organisation noted: “Geolocated footage posted on 30 October shows that Ukrainian forces have advanced northeast of Kurdyumivka (10km southwest of Bakhmut).”
It said that the Ukrainian army had also “marginally advanced” in the west of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia.
The bombardment comes as Kyiv “successfully hit a strategic object of the air defence system” in western Crimea.
Reports show that Russian sources believe the attack was made with “combined” long-range weapons such as ATACMS, storm shadow missiles and sea drones.
Russia‘s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems had been destroyed by eight Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
The missiles used were built by the US and UK and were the first time that the top-tier missile system had struck targets on the Crimea coast.
It comes as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned the country’s allies against expecting success in the war with Russia too quickly.
In one of his nightly addresses, the leader said: “The modern world is set up in such a way that it becomes accustomed to success too quickly.
“When the full-scale aggression began, many in the world did not think Ukraine would endure.”
He has previously spoken out amid criticism that Ukraine‘s counteroffensives against Russia were happening too slowly.
The war in Russia has continued to destroy the Kremlin’s reputation globally, and on Tuesday Carlsberg announced it would be the latest brand to terminate its business in the country.
The beer company said it did not want to be “forced into a deal on unacceptable terms to justify the illegitimate takeover” of its Russian business after Moscow took control of its operations.
The Danish brewer’s boss, Jacob Aarup-Andersen, said Russia had “stolen our business”.
He added: “We are not going to help them make that look legitimate.”
